About

Who am I?

Welcome to my blog and thanks for visiting! My name is Kristin and I am a twenty-something living in Philadelphia with my husband, Mike, and our two adorable pups, Sophie and Chloe. I'm currently pursuing my Master's degree in Ancient Studies while also holding down a full time job. In between work and school I'm also an avid runner, having completed my first marathon in November 2011 and broken into the ultra running world in 2012.

Yours truly

My run-loving husband
After finishing my first half marathon in May 2011, and after 4 years of dating, Mike proposed to me at the finish line. We were engaged for a year, got married in June 2012 and had a fantastic honeymoon in Costa Rica.

What's my story?

I have vague memories of liking running as a kid and much more concrete memories of despising it as a teenager. At the beginning of almost every cheerleading practice our coaches forced us to run four laps around the track. We must have looked pretty pathetic (or at least me!) because at some point they decided to cut us a break and let us walk the curves and run the straights. The more determined members of my team kept up a running pace for the full mile. I, on the other hand, was more than happy to take advantage of the coaches' new policy!

It wasn't until after college that I tried running again. I started running on the treadmill on-and-off, logging 1-2 miles at a time. Then, in September 2010, Mike finally convinced me to go for a run outside; Something I thought I would DESPISE! "How am I supposed to keep track of my pace? How do I know how far we are going? What if I can't make it? What do you mean there might be a hill or two!?" Thirty minutes later I arrived back at our apartment triumphant and shocked that I just ran three whole miles straight. "No way!"

Since then I've found that I can't stop running (outside of otherwise). Over Thanksgiving a few months later I made the insane decision to train for a half marathon. "13.1 miles? You've got to be kidding me. There's no way I can do that." Those were my exact thoughts when I first started my 25-week program. Every week I would just wait for that moment when I would decide to quit. But it never came. As time went by I realized that not only could I consistently keep up with the increased mileage every week, but that I was beginning to feel a lot more confident and was really enjoying myself.

ODDyssey Half Marathon 2011
I've found my appetite for running is ever expanding. Now with several races under my belt,  I've got my sights set on even bigger things. There's a whole world out there to explore and while I've got legs to get me there, I'll use them!

Why Every Day Is Run Day?

Well, first of all, because I would run every day if I could! More seriously though, I believe that no day should be wasted. I spent too many years sitting on the couch being unhappy and unhealthy. Life is too short. So whether you get out for a run, a walk, a bike ride, even a swim, the important thing is that you get off of your butt and do something!
